Menopause Education Program Tackles a Burning Question:

Are There Alternatives to Hormone Therapy?

COCOA BEACH, FL - Cape Canaveral Hospital will continue its monthly lecture series on outsmarting menopause that began in 2009. Called the "Red Hot Mamas" series, these lectures are aimed at providing medical information and peer support to women and their family members on coping with the physical and psychological impact of menopause, which usually affects women age 40 and beyond.

This month's session will feature Health First Physicians Gynecologist Sherri Fair Caplan, DO, presenting: The Natural Way: Alternatives to Hormone Therapy. Dr. Caplan will describe several natural approaches to handling the symptoms of menopause and compare them to more traditional health interventions. The meeting will be held on January 21 from 6 to 7 pm, following a wine and cheese reception at 5:30 pm in the Cape Canaveral Hospital Medical Plaza Conference Room, 701 W. Cocoa Beach Causeway Cocoa Beach.

There are many "natural" products on the market today that are advertised as helpful in reducing the symptoms of menopause - hot flashes, sleeplessness, mood swings, etc. But to complicate matters, some products are marketed under as many as four names. Dr. Caplan will discuss the pros and cons of these alternatives and where and when they might be appropriate.

Red Hot Mamas is the largest menopause management education program in North America and is dedicated to empowering women to be educated consumers in their health care and active participants in the management of their menopause, preparing them for a comfortable transition.

More information about the monthly lectures on different topics relating to menopause is available by calling the Health First Community Engagement Center at 321-434-4335. All women, their partners and family members are urged to attend this meeting to learn about this critical topic. Space is limited, so please call 434-4335 to reserve your seat TODAY!
